Translate Guide
A short walkthrough of the 杉厘科技 Translate app, with tips for getting better results and a clear list of what it cannot do.
Step-by-step
- Open the tool at /Translate/. It loads directly in your browser; no installation is required.
- Choose the source language. If you are not sure what language the input is in, leave the dropdown set to Auto-detect. The upstream model will infer the source from the text itself.
- Choose the target language. This is the language you want the translation in. See the full list on Supported Languages.
- Type or paste the source text into the input area. You can paste multiple paragraphs. Line breaks are preserved.
- Press Translate. A short loading state will show while the request is in flight. The translated text will appear below.
- Copy the result. Use the copy button next to the output to place the translation on your clipboard.
- Swap languages if you want to translate the other direction. There is a swap button between the two dropdowns.
Tips for better results
- Give context. A whole sentence usually translates more accurately than a single word out of context.
- Split very long input. If you're translating a long article, break it into a few paragraphs at a time. Very long single requests can time out or truncate.
- Clean up copy-paste artefacts. Extra newlines, PDF hyphens at line ends, and stray footer text can confuse a machine translator. Trim before pressing Translate.
- Prefer plain text. Rich formatting is not preserved. Only the underlying characters are translated.
- Try both directions. Machine translations of the same phrase in different directions can differ. If a result seems odd, translate back to your original language as a sanity check.
What the translator cannot do well
- Legal, medical, financial, or safety-critical text. These require a qualified professional. Do not rely on machine translation to sign contracts, make medical decisions, or interpret regulatory guidance.
- Rare dialects or highly regional slang. The model may substitute a general form.
- Long documents in a single request. There are practical size limits; break the document up.
- Perfect literary style. Idioms, poetry, and rhythmic prose often lose nuance in machine translation.
- Real-time speech. The tool is text-in / text-out. There is no live-microphone translation.
Troubleshooting
Nothing happens when I press Translate
Check that you have selected a target language and entered some source text. If the button is disabled, the request is still in flight — wait a few seconds.
I see an error message
The upstream translation service occasionally returns an error (rate limit, temporary outage, or the input tripped a safety filter). Try again in a moment, shorten the input, or rephrase.
The result looks off
Re-check the source and target dropdowns. If those are correct, the translation may simply be a low-confidence guess for that phrase; try providing more context, or split a long sentence.
Copy button does not work
Very old browsers or private-mode restrictions can block programmatic clipboard access. Manually select the output and press Cmd/Ctrl+C.
